Brake Backing Plate

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle safely on jackstands.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Matchmark and remove the brake drum.
  4. Remove the brake shoes, springs and other components, and place them on a flat surface. It is a good idea to organize the parts in a pattern to reflect their final installation.
  5. Disconnect the inlet tube line from the back of the wheel cylinder. Immediately plug or cap the line to prevent system contamination or excessive fluid loss.
  6. Remove the wheel cylinder assembly.
  7. Remove the retainer bolts securing the backing plate to the rear trailing arm assembly.
  8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Secure all components to specifications.
  9. Bleed the brake system.
