Fuel Pump

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1.8L, 2.2L and 2.5L Engines

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. On the 2000–01 Legacy, perform the following:
    1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    2. Remove the front side fuel tank cover.
    3. Drain the fuel tank into a suitable container.
    4. Tighten the drain plug to 14–24 ft. lbs. (19–33 Nm).
    5. Install the front side fuel tank cover Tighten the retainers to 9.4–16.6 ft. lbs. (13–23 Nm).
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
  6. On Legacy models, fold the seat back, then roll the floor mat back.
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    NOTE: Label the fuel lines before disconnecting them from the pump.

    To install:

  8. Install or connect the following:
  9. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Carefully remove the fuel pump assembly from the tank

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Fold down the rear seat back and fold the floor mat back.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
  4. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    To install:

  6. Install or connect the following:
  7. On the 2000–01 Legacy, fill the fuel tank with the fuel that was drained during removal.
