REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Front

EXCEPT SVX

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Steering knuckle assembly from the vehicle
3. Position the steering knuckle in a soft-jawed vise.
4. Press the hub from the steering knuckle. If the inner bearing race remains in the hub, press it out.
5. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Rotor shield
   • Inner and outer seals
   • Snapring from the steering knuckle
6. Press the inner bearing race to remove the outer bearing.
7. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Tone ring, if equipped with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
   • Wheel lugs from the hub using a suitable press

   NOTE: To prevent deforming the hub, do not hammer the lugs out.

   To install:

8. Install or connect the following:
   • Wheel lugs into the hub using a suitable press
9. If equipped with ABS, clean all foreign material from the hub and tone ring.
10. Install or connect the following:
    • Tone ring
11. Clean the inside of the steering knuckle.
12. Remove the plastic lock from the inner race and press a new greased bearing into the hub by pressing the outer race.
13. Install or connect the following:
    • Snapring into its groove
    • New outer oil seal using a press, until it contacts the bottom of the housing
    • New inner oil seal using a press, until it contacts the circlip
14. Apply grease to the oil seal lips.
15. Install or connect the following:
    • Rotor shield and tighten the bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm)
    • Hub to the steering knuckle
16. Press a new bearing into the hub by driving the inner race.
17. Install the steering knuckle on the vehicle.

SVX

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Remove the steering knuckle assembly from the vehicle.
3. Using a hub stand, 28099PA080t, support the steering knuckle assembly.
4. Drive the hub out of the steering knuckle using tool 28099PA040 hub remover.
5. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Backing plate from the steering knuckle
   • Inner and outer wheel seals using a suitable prying tool
   • Snapring from the rear of the steering knuckle
   • Outer bearing using a bearing installer 28099PA000

   To install:

6. Install or connect the following:
   • Outer bearing using bearing installer 28099PA000
   • Snapring in the groove
   • Inner and outer oil seals in the steering knuckle
   • Backing plate
   • Hub into the bearing assembly using a 28099PA020 bearing installer
   • Steering knuckle assembly onto the vehicle

Rear

EXCEPT SVX

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Loosen the parking brake adjustment.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Wheel assembly
   • Unstake and remove the axle nut
   • Caliper, leaving the line connected, and suspend it aside
   • Rotor
   • Parking brake cable
   • Sway bar clamp
   • Bolt securing the lateral link to the housing
   • Bolts securing the trailing link to the housing
   • Halfshaft
   • Bolts securing the strut to the housing
   • Speed sensor from the backing plate, if equipped with Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
   • Housing assembly
   • Hub from the rear housing using Hub Stand 92708000 and Puller 927420000
   • Backing plate from the housing
   • Outer, inner and sub oil seals
   • Snapring
   • Bearing by pressing the inner race

   To install:

4. Clean the housing thoroughly.

   NOTE: Do not remove the plastic lock from the inner race when installing the bearing.

5. Install or connect the following:
   • New bearing into the housing by pressing the outer race and pack the bearing with grease
   • Snapring and ensure that it fits properly
   • New outer seal until it contacts the snapring using a press
   • New inner seal until it contacts the bottom using a press
   • New sub oil seal and apply grease to the oil seal lip
   • Backing plate and tighten the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm)
   • Hub into the housing using installer 927450000 to press it into position
   • Housing to the strut and tighten the bolts to 119 ft. lbs. (162 Nm)
   • Speed sensor, if equipped with ABS
   • Halfshaft
   • Trailing link to the housing and tighten the bolt and new nut to 94 ft. lbs. (127 Nm)
   • Lateral link to the housing and tighten the bolt and new nut to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm)
   • Sway bar clamp
   • Parking brake cable
   • Rear brake assembly
   • New axle nut and tighten it to 152 ft. lbs. (206 Nm). Stake the nut.
   • Wheel
6. Adjust the parking brake cable.

SVX

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Rear wheel assembly
   • Dust cap and axle nut
4. Return the parking brake lever and remove the console box lid.
5. Loosen the parking brake adjuster nut.
6. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Stabilizer link
   • Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) sensor and clamp
   • Parking brake cable clamp
   • Brake hose from the strut
7. Loosen the caliper assembly securing bolts.
8. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Trailing link from the knuckle
   • Nut securing the lateral link to the knuckle
   • 2 nuts securing the strut to the knuckle
   • Caliper assembly and fasten to the strut using wire
   • Rotor
   • Parking brake shoes
   • Cable from the shoe
   • Parking brake cable clamp
   • Cable from the back plates
   • Knuckle from the halfshaft
   • Mounting bolts and the knuckle
   • Wheel bearings

   To install:

9. Install or connect the following:
   • Wheel bearings
   • Knuckle and the mounting bolts
   • Halfshaft into knuckle. Tighten the axle nut to 123–152 ft. lbs. (167–206 Nm).
   • Parking brake cable to the back plate and install the cable clamp
   • Cable to the brake shoe
   • Brake shoes
   • Brake rotor and the caliper assembly
   • Axle nut and dust cap
   • Nuts securing the strut to the knuckle. Tighten the nuts to 98–127 ft. lbs. (132–172 Nm).
   • Nut securing the lateral link to the knuckle
   • Caliper assembly mounting bolts
   • Brake hose to the strut
   • Parking brake cable clamp
   • ABS sensor and clamp
   • Stabilizer link
10. Tighten the parking brake cable adjusting nut.
11. Install or connect the following:
    • Console box lid
    • Rear wheel
