Removal & Installation

A/T Vehicles

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Ground cable from battery
   • Air cleaner case (non-turbo models)
   • Intercooler (turbo models)

     Transmission Connector

   • Transmission connector
   • Transmission connector from stay
3. Safely raise and support the vehicle.
4. Drain automatic transmission fluid and replace the drain plug.
5. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Front, center, rear exhaust pipes and muffler
   • Shield cover (if equipped)
   • Propeller shaft
6. Place a transmission jack under transmission.

   Note: Make sure that the support plates of transmission jack don't touch the crossmember.

7. Remove the transmission rear crossmember bolts.
8. Lower the transmission jack.
9. Remove or disconnect the following
   • Oil cooler inlet and outlet pipe

     Front And Turbine Speed Sensor

   • Front vehicle speed sensor and torque converter turbine speed sensor

     Front And Rear Speed Sensor

   • Rear vehicle speed sensor
   • Oil pan

     Trans Valve Body

   • Duty solenoid connectors and ATF temperature sensor
   • Harness assembly

To Install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   • Harness connectors (matching colors) and secure to valve body using clips
     1. Torque to: 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm)
2. Apply liquid gasket to the oil pan mating surface and to three holes on case.

3. Install or connect the following:
   • Oil pan
     1. Torque to: 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
   • Front and rear vehicle speed sensor, and also the torque converter turbine speed sensor, and fasten the harness
     1. Torque to: 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm)
   • New washer and oil cooler pipes
     1. T1 - Torque to: 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
     2. T2 - Torque to: 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm)
     3. T3 - Torque to: 32.5 ft. lbs. (44 Nm)
   • Transmission rear crossmember bolts
     1. Torque to: 51 ft. lbs. (70 Nm)
   • Propeller shaft
   • Shield cover (if equipped)
   • Front, center, rear exhaust pipes and muffler
4. Lower vehicle.

   Front and Turbine Speed Sensor

5. Install or connect the following:
   • Transmission connector to the stay
   • Air cleaner case (non-turbo models)
   • Air intake chamber (turbo models)
   • Intercooler (turbo models)
6. Fill ATF and check ATF level.

M/T Vehicles

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Ground cable from battery
   • Intercooler (turbo models)
   • Front, center rear exhaust pipes and muffler (non-turbo models)

     Vehicle Speed Sensor MT

   • Vehicle speed sensor connector
   • Vehicle speed sensor

To Install:

Note: Discard the vehicle speed sensor and after removal, replace with a new one.
Ensure the sensor mounting hole is clean and free of foreign matter.
Align the tip end of key with key groove on end of speedometer shaft during installation.

1. Install or connect the following:

   Vehicle Speed Sensor MT

   • Vehicle speed sensor
     1. Torque to: 4.3 ft. lbs. (5.9 Nm)
   • Vehicle speed sensor connector
   • Front, center exhaust pipes and muffler
   • Intercooler (turbo models)
   • Battery ground cable to battery
