Removal & Installation

To Remove:

1. Disconnect or remove the following
   • Ground cable from battery
   • Front wheels

   • Axle nut using a socket wrench

     CAUTION
     Be sure to loosen and retighten axle nut after removing wheel from vehicle. Failure to follow this rule may damage wheel bearings.

   • Stabilizer link
   • Disc brake caliper from housing, and suspend it from strut using a wire
   • Disc rotor from hub

     CAUTION
     If disc rotor seizes up within hub, drive disc rotor out by installing an 8-mm bolt in screw hole on the rotor.

   • Cotter pin and castle nut which secure tie-rod end to housing knuckle arm
   • Tie-rod ball joint from knuckle arm using a puller
   • ABS sensor assembly and harness in advance
   • Sensor harness to strut bolt
   • Transverse link ball joint from housing
   • SFJ from transmission spindle
   • Front drive shaft assembly from hub

   CAUTION
   If it is hard to remove, use STs. ST1 926470000 AXLE SHAFT PULLER ST2 927140000 PLATE

   CAUTION
   Be careful not to damage oil seal lip and tone wheel when removing front drive shaft.

   When replacing front drive shaft, also replace inner oil seal.

2. After scribing an alignment mark on camber adjusting bolt head, remove bolts which connect housing and strut, and disconnect housing from strut.

To Install:

1. While aligning alignment mark on camber adjusting bolt head, connect housing and strut

   CAUTION
   Use a new self-locking nut.

   • Torque specification: 177 Nm (130 ft. lbs.)
2. Install or connect the following
   • Front drive shaft
   • Transverse link ball joint to housing
   • Torque specification: 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.)
   • ABS sensor harness on strut.
   • ABS sensor on housing
   • Torque specification: 32 Nm (23.9 ft. lbs.)
   • Disc rotor on hub
   • Disc brake caliper on housing
   • Torque specification: 78 Nm (57.9 ft. lbs.)
   • Stabilizer link
   • Tie-rod end ball joint and knuckle arm with a castle nut, and insert cotter pin into tie-rod end
   • Torque specification: 27.0 Nm (19.9 ft. lbs.)

3. While depressing brake pedal, tighten axle nut and lock it securely
   • Torque specification: 216 Nm (159 ft. lbs.)

   CAUTION
   Use a new axle nut (3.0 L model: Olive color, 2.5 L model: Gold color).

   Always tighten axle nut before installing wheel on vehicle. If wheel is installed and comes in contact with ground when axle nut is loose, wheel bearings may be damaged.

   CAUTION
   Be sure to tighten axle nut to specified torque. Do not overtighten it as this may damage wheel bearing.

4. Install wheel and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque
   • Torque Specification: 88 Nm (65 Ft. Lbs.)
