ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
CAUTION:
·Check the following items before replacing a discharge headlight bulb. If there was a malfunction, after repairing or replacing the part, perform an inspection of the discharge headlight bulb again.
·Check that the high voltage socket of the headlight light control computer ASSY and the discharge headlight bulb are connected properly.
·Check that there is no damage on the high voltage socket of the headlight light control computer ASSY and the connector of the discharge headlight bulb.
NOTE:
The discharge headlight bulb is not necessarily functioning properly, even if it temporarily turns on properly. Because there are malfunction phenomenon which are difficult to recreate, perform all of the following inspection procedures, in this order.
1. Inspection of the discharge headlight bulb
(1) Preparations
(a) Before performing the inspection, turn the discharge headlight bulb off and leave it that way for 10 minutes or more and completely cool off the discharge headlight bulb.
NOTE:
To investigate the reason that the discharge headlight bulb doesn't light up, it is necessary to perform the inspection after the discharge headlight bulb has cooled.
(2) Inspection 1
(a) Turn on the discharge headlight bulb for 25 minutes or more, and check if it lights up properly at the start and completion times.
NOTE:
·To stabilize the tube voltage of the discharge headlight bulb, leave the bulb on for 25 minutes or more.
·Due to the increased tube voltage, discharge headlight bulbs at the end of their service life may turn off with the fail-safe function of the headlight light control computer ASSY.
(3) Inspection 2
(a) After Inspection 1, turn the discharge headlight bulb off for 15 seconds and then on for 15 seconds. Repeat this 5 times and check if it turns on properly.
NOTE:
This inspection is done to check the activation during a hot start.
(4) Inspection 3
(a) After Inspection 2, turn off the discharge headlight bulb, and leave it for 3 minutes.
(b) After it's been off for 3 minutes, turn on the discharge headlight bulb for 3 minutes, and check if it lights up properly at the start and completion times.
NOTE:
·A characteristic of the discharge headlight bulb is that 3 minutes after it is turned off, the activation voltage reaches its peak, and can cause trouble for activation.
·This inspection is done to check the activation during a hot start.
Criteria :  In each step, the discharge headlight bulb turns on properly and doesn't flicker.
(5) Inspection 4
(a) Remove the discharge headlight bulb, and visually check the light emitting tube.
Criteria :  The interior of the light emitting tube is not swollen or cloudy. However, brown blemishes on the interior of the light emitting tube are normal.
