LIGHTING (EXTERIOR)
LIGHTING SYSTEM
PRECAUTIONS
1. Precautions when handling the discharge headlights
(1) When the light control switch is set to HEAD, touching the high voltage sockets of the discharge headlights instantly produces a high voltage of approximately 22,000 V, and can cause serious accidents.
(2) Measuring with putting a tester on the high voltage sockets of the discharge headlights can cause serious accidents due to high voltage. Never perform such measurements.
(3) When the light control switch is set to HEAD, or just after switching to OFF, the headlight light control computer ASSY may be hot, so be careful not to burn yourself.
(4) When doing work related to the discharge headlights, perform work under the following conditions.
(a) Perform in a place where there is no water or rain. (To prevent electrocution)
(b) Turn the light control switch OFF.
(c) The temperature of the headlight light control computer ASSY must have sufficiently decreased.
(d) Remove the battery terminals and disconnect the connectors clamped to the headlight ASSY. (Cut off the power supply to the headlight light control computer ASSY)
(5) When doing work related to the discharge headlights, if you are lighting up the bulbs, do so after they are completely assembled. Never turn the lights on if they are not equipped.
(6) Do not use a power source other than the vehicle to light up the discharge headlights.
(7) If a discharge headlight (and in particular, the headlight light control computer ASSY) is damaged in the following ways, replace it with a new one.
(a) If there is any evident disfiguration on the computer (warp, twisting, depression, dent, crack, splinter).
(b) If there is any crack or splinter in the plastic parts of the high voltage socket or the connector, or any disfiguration in the terminal part.
(c) If there is any instability in the connection with the grounding of the reflector due to a disfiguration of the socket cover.
(d) If there is any scratch on the high voltage harnesses or power wiring harnesses.
NOTE:
Even if they temporarily operate properly, when there is a failure, the fail-safe function will work and turn the lights off.
(8) Even if the discharge headlight bulbs light up temporarily, they may turn off again or flicker. Perform a failure diagnosis on the discharge headlight bulbs. (Refer to )
(9) The color of the light emitted by the discharge headlights changes with the length of time in use.
2. Precautions for replacing each light's bulb.
(1) Halogen lights become hot during use. If any grease, etc, is stuck to the bulb surface, it will shorten the service life of the service bulb. When replacing the bulb, grasp it by the flange section, while taking care not to touch the glass section.
(2) Halogen bulbs contain high pressure. If you drop, bump, or damage them, the bulbs may break, scattering the glass.
(3) If you leave a bulb out for a long time after removal, debris or dampness may enter the lens. Therefore, replace the bulb after preparing a new bulb.
(4) Be sure to replace the bulb with one of the same standard and wattage.
(5) Replacing only one bulb may create a difference in the brightness and color of the light emitted from the left and right side.
(6) Improper installation in the socket can cause cloudiness or water to enter to the lens, so after replacing the bulb, securely install it.
(7) Flying glass fragments can cause injuries, so dispose of used discharge headlight bulbs without breaking them.
3. Precautions during headlight beam adjustment
(1) If using a cover when the headlights are on, do not perform for 3 minutes or more.
(2) Because the headlight outer lens is made of plastic, performing the adjustment for a long time will cause heat that may cause disfiguration.
FUNCTION INSPECTION
1. Before troubleshooting
(1) Basic inspection
(a) Inspect the battery voltage.
Standard value :  11 to 14 V (when IG OFF)
(2) Inspect for blown light bulbs and fuses, wiring harnesses open circuit, short circuits, and poor contact of connectors, in places where you can inspect visually.
2. Operation inspection of the DRL system
(1) Start the engine.
(2) Move the shift lever in a position other than P.
(3) Release the parking brake.
(4) Turn the light control switch to OFF position.
(5) Check that the DRL lights turn on.
3. Battery saver inspection
(1) With the ignition key removed from the IG SW, turn the light control switch to TAIL or HEAD, and turn on the headlights.
(2) With the light control switch in the same position for 20 minutes, check that the headlights and tail lights turn off.
