Engine Lubrication Description

Precautions: General safety (00)

•The oil pump is of a vane-type and mounted on crankshaft. The pump draws up oil from the oil pan through the oil pump strainer. The oil then flows through the heat exchanger and engine oil filter before being distributed to each engine part.
•The oil life monitoring system monitors the condition of engine oil. The system causes the oil change request light to blink when the system determines that the oil has degraded to the critical degree. If the light blinks, both engine oil and engine oil filter must be replaced as soon as possible. For details of the oil life monitoring system, refer to Oil Life Monitoring System Description:D16AA.
If the vehicle undergoes frequent forced regeneration of DPF®, the engine oil will be degraded prematurely due to dilution by repeated post-injection. It is necessary for such a vehicle to make an engine oil level adjustment and, following which, the After-sales regeneration if the oil level is higher than the upper limit mark on the dipstick by 15 mm (0.59 in.) or more even when the oil change request light does not blink.
—For detailed description of engine oil degradation due to forced regeneration of DPF®, refer to DPF® Description:D16AA.
—For the methods of engine oil level inspection and adjustment, refer to Engine Oil Level Check:D16AA.
