INSTALLATION
3.7/ 4.7L
1. Connect solenoid wire to starter motor (snaps on).
2. Position battery cable (1) to solenoid stud. Install and tighten battery cable eyelet nut (2). Torque nut to 19 ft. lbs. (25 N·m). Do not allow starter motor to hang from wire harness.
3. Position starter motor (4) to transmission.
4. If equipped with automatic transmission, slide cooler tube bracket into position.
5. Install and tighten both bolts (3). Torque bolts to 50 ft. lbs.. (68 N·m).
6. Note: If equipped with 4WD and certain transmissions, a support bracket is used between front axle and side of transmission. Install 2 support bracket bolts at transmission.
7. Note: If equipped with 4WD, install front drive shaft.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Connect negative battery cable.
5.7L
1. Connect solenoid wire to starter motor (snaps on).
2. Position battery cable to solenoid stud. Install and tighten battery cable eyelet nut. Torque nut to 25 N·m (19 ft. lbs.). Do not allow starter motor to hang from wire harness.
3. Position starter motor (1) to engine.
4. If equipped with automatic transmission, slide cooler tube bracket into position.
5. Install and tighten both mounting bolts (2). Torque bolts to 68 N·m (50 ft. lbs.)..
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Connect negative battery cable.
3.0L - DIESEL
1. While working from engine compartment, position starter to transmission bellhousing.
2. Connect solenoid wire to solenoid.
3. Position battery cable eyelet to starter. Install battery cable nut.
4. Position left engine mount (1) to engine and install four bolts (2).
5. Tighten four engine-to-engine mount bolts (2) using a long extension (3) and swivel socket.
6. Install and tighten frame-to-engine mount nut (4) and through-bolt (5).
7. Remove Engine Support Fixture #8534B (1) from engine.
8. Install Power Distribution Center and Fuse/Relay Center (1) to left inner fender. Connect both B+ cables to both Centers.
9. Raise vehicle.
10. Install and tighten starter mounting bolts (2).
11. If equipped, install skid plate below starter.
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Install plastic dress-up cover to top of engine.
14. Install battery tray (three bolts — one nut).
15. Install battery.
16. Install positive battery cable to battery.
17. Install negative battery cable to battery.
