CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP

REMOVAL




1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Unlatch and open the swing gate (4).
3. Unsnap the inboard side of the louvered plastic access panel and unhook it from the outboard edge of the access hole on the inside of the swing gate near the latch.
4. Reach through the access hole to disconnect the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) pigtail connector (7) from the swing gate wire harness connector (3).
5. Disengage the grommet (6) for the CHMSL pigtail wire harness from the clearance hole in the outer swing gate panel.
6. Carefully pull the CHMSL pigtail wire harness and connector out through the swing gate clearance hole.
7. Remove the four screws (2) from the forward facing surface of the stanchion on the spare tire carrier (5) that secure the CHMSL (1).
8. Pull the CHMSL away from the vehicle while feeding the CHMSL pigtail wire harness through the spare tire carrier.

INSTALLATION




1. Feed the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) (1) pigtail wire harness through the spare tire carrier (5) on the outer surface of the swing gate (4).
2. Position the CHMSL to the rearward facing surface of the stanchion on the spare tire carrier
3. Install and tighten the four screws (2) that secure the CHMSL to the stanchion. Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (20 in. lbs.).
4. Feed the CHMSL wiring back into the swing gate through the clearance hole far enough to engage the rubber grommet (6) into the clearance hole.
5. Reach through the access hole on the inside of the swing gate near the latch to access and reconnect the CHMSL pigtail connector (7) to the swing gate wire harness connector (3).
6. Reinstall the louvered plastic access panel over the access hole by hooking it into the outboard edge of the hole, then pressing firmly and evenly over the two snap clip locations on the inboard side of the panel until it snaps into place.
7. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
