REAR AXLE - 198RBI

REMOVAL




1. With transmission in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
2. Position and secure a lift under the axle.
3. Mark propeller shaft flange (1) and axle pinion flange (2) for installation reference.
4. Remove propeller shaft and suspend under the vehicle.



5. Remove vent hose (1) from the axle tube (2).



6. Remove park brake cables (1) from axle (2).

NOTE: Park brake cables are self adjusting and must be locked out before removal.




7. Remove brake calipers (2) and rotors (1).



8. Remove brake sensors connector (1) from sensors (2).



9. Remove track bar (1) from axle bracket (2)



10. Remove stabilizer bar links (1) from axle brackets (2).



11. Remove shock absorbers (1) from axle brackets (2).



12. Remove upper control arms (1) from axle brackets (2).



13. Loosen lower control arm (1) bolts and lower axle enough to remove coil springs and spring insulators.
14. Remove lower control arm (1) from axle brackets (2).
15. Lower and remove the axle.

INSTALLATION



CAUTION: The weight of the vehicle must be supported by the springs before the control arms and track bar are tightened. Failure to follow these instruction will cause premature bushing failure.


1. Raise the axle under the vehicle.
2. Install lower control arms (1) onto axle brackets (2) and loosely install mounting bolts and nuts.
3. Install coil spring isolators and springs.
4. Raise axle up until springs are seated.



5. Install upper control arms (1) onto axle brackets (2) and loosely install mounting bolts and nuts.



6. Install shock absorbers (1) onto axle brackets (2) and tighten nuts to specification.



7. Install stabilizer links (1) onto axle brackets (2) and tighten nuts to specification.



8. Install track bar (1) onto axle bracket (2). and loosely install track bar bolt.



9. Install brake sensors connector (1) on sensors (2).



10. Install brake rotors (1) and calipers (2).



11. Install park brake cables (1).



12. Install vent hose (1) on axle tube (2).



13. Install propeller shaft with propeller shaft flange (1) and pinion flange (2) reference marks aligned.

NOTE: Clean all propeller shaft bolts and apply Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive or equivalent to the threads before installation.


14. Install propeller shaft bolts and tighten to specifications.
15. Install the wheels and tires.
16. Remove lifting device from axle and lower the vehicle.
17. Tighten lower control arms, upper control arms and track bar nuts to specification.
