Theory of Operation
The Ambient Air Temperature Sensor is a two wire sensor that is hard wired to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). The TIPM supplies a 5 Volt sensor signal and sensor ground to the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor. The sensor internal resistance changes in response to changes in ambient temperature. The TIPM provides the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with ambient temperature over the CAN Bus network.

When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

Set Condition:
The Ambient Air Temperature Sensor signal over CAN Bus from the TIPM is implausible.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
DTC IS ACTIVE
| NOTE: | The Ambient Air Temperature Sensor is hardwired to the TIPM. |
| 1. | Ignition on, engine not running. |
| 2. | With the scan tool, clear DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). |
| 3. | Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes. |
| 4. | Cycle the ignition key off and on several times, leaving the ignition on for at least 10 seconds at a time. |
| 5. | With the scan tool, select View DTCs. |
