P0563-ECM VOLTAGE TOO HIGH

Possible Causes

CHARGING SYSTEM FAULTY
CHECKING PCM POWER AND GROUNDS
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).


1. CHECK FOR DTC


1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
3. Test drive the vehicle.
4. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.


Did this DTC return?

Yes


No


2. CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM




NOTE: This DTC may be caused by a charging system problem. Use the service information and verify proper charging system operation before continuing.
1. (Refer to 08 - Electrical/8F - Engine Systems/Charging - Diagnosis and Testing) and perform the CHARGING SYSTEM diagnostic procedure.


Were any problems found with the Charging System?

Yes


No


3. CHECK THE PCM POWERS AND GROUNDS


1. (Refer to 29 - Non-DTC Diagnostics/Drivability - Diesel - Diagnosis and Testing) and perform the CHECKING THE PCM POWERS AND GROUNDS diagnostic procedure.


Were any problem found with the PCM powers and grounds?

Yes


No


4. INTERMITTENT CONDITION




NOTE: The conditions that set the DTC are not present at this time. The following list may help in identifying the intermittent condition.
1. With the engine running at normal operating temperature, monitor the battery voltage while wiggling the wiring harness. Look for values to change and/or a DTC to set.
2. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that may apply.
3. Visually inspect the related wiring harness. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
4. Visually inspect the related wiring harness connectors. Look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals.


Were any of the above conditions present?

Yes


No
