P06EF-ENGINE RESTART PERFORMANCE

When Monitored:
During an Auto-Restart attempt.

Set Condition:
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) does not detect the engine running 1.5 seconds after an Auto-Restart is commanded on. One trip fault. If the vehicle is equipped with the stop/start feature, the system will be disabled when this DTC is active.
Possible Causes |

| FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM FAILURE |
| ENGINE MECHANICAL ISSUE |
| POOR STARTER MOTOR CONDITION (DRAGGING OR OVERHEATING) |
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
| 1. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 2. | With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the PCM. |
| 3. | Test drive the vehicle in Start/Stop mode. Make several complete stops, and Auto-Restart attempts. |
| 4. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 5. | With the scan tool, select View DTCs. |
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
2. CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE BATTERY AND STARTER CONNECTIONS
| 1. | Turn the ignition off. |
| 2. | Inspect the Battery Cables, Posts and Starter Motor connections for signs of corrosion or a poor connection. |
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
- Go To 3
| 1. | Using the GR-8 Battery Charger/Tester, check the condition of the Battery. |
Did the Battery test good?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Battery in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
4. CHECK THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM
| 1. | Perform the CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 29 - Non-DTC Diagnostics/Drivability - Diesel - Diagnosis and Testing) . |
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
- Go To 5
5. CHECK THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM
| 1. | Perform the CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 29 - Non-DTC Diagnostics/Drivability - Diesel - Diagnosis and Testing) . |
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
- Replace the Starter Motor in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
