P152F-ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 / ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 1 CORRELATION

Possible Causes

HOOD NOT SECURED PROPERLY
(K806) ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
(K806) ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
DEFECTIVE OR STICKING ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 1
DEFECTIVE OR STICKING ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2
TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM)
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC




NOTE: If there are any other Engine Hood Switch DTCs present in the PCM or TIPM, diagnose those DTCs before proceeding with this test procedure.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, view PCM DTCs.


Is the DTC active?

Yes


No


2. HOOD SECURED PROPERLY


1. Visually check to make sure the Hood is secured properly.


Is the Hood properly secured?

Yes


No


3. CHECK THE (K806) ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE



1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Engine Hood Switch 2 harness connector.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Measure the voltage on the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit at the Engine Hood Switch 2 harness connector.


Does the voltage measure above 5.2 Volts?

Yes


No


4. CHECK THE (K806) ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND



1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit at the Engine Hood Switch 2 harness connector.


Does the resistance above 10k Ohms?

Yes


No


5. ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2


1. Replace Engine Hood Switch 2.
2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
3. With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
4. Test drive the vehicle in Stop/Start mode.
5. With the scan tool, select view PCM DTCs.


Did the DTC return?

Yes


No


6. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE


1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Engine Hood Switch 2 and the Powertrain Control Module.
2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

Yes


No
