COVER(S), Cylinder Head

DESCRIPTION

The cylinder head cover is made of an injection molded composite. The cylinder head cover also incorporates a oil drain back hole for the crankcase ventilation (CCV) system (1).

The cylinder head cover gasket is not a serviceable item, if the gasket is found to be defective then a new cylinder head cover must be installed.

The cylinder head cover also incorporates a oil drain back hole (1) for the crankcase ventilation (CCV) system.

REMOVAL

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

 
2. Disconnect the crankcase vent hose (1) from the oil separator (2).

 
3. Remove the fuel injectors (Refer to 14 - Fuel System/Fuel Injection/INJECTOR(S) , Fuel - Removal).
   
   

 
4. Remove the retaining nuts (1) and the vacuum supply line (2).
   
   
   
   

   NOTE:

   The upper cover bolts are incased in a collar which does not permit them to be removed.


 
5. Loosen the upper front timing cover bolts (1).
   
   

 
6. Loosen the fasteners (8) and the cylinder head cover (7).
   

 

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION

1. Clean the sealing surfaces and inspect the gasket for damage and replace the cylinder head cover with a new one if the gasket is found to be defective.

 
2. Apply a 3 mm bead of Mopar® Engine Sealant RTV to the camshaft bearing cap (1).
   
   

 
3. Install the cylinder head cover (7). Tighten to 11 N·m (97 in. lbs.).
   
   

 
4. Tighten the upper front timing cover bolts (1) to 11 N·m (97 in. lbs.).
   
   

 
5. Install the vacuum supply line (2). Tighten nuts (1) to 11 N·m (97 in. lbs.).
   
   

 
6. Install the fuel injector (Refer to 14 - Fuel System/Fuel Injection/INJECTOR(S) , Fuel - Installation).

 
7. Connect the crankcase vent hose (1) to the oil separator (2).

 
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
