DESCRIPTION
High-pressure fuel lines deliver
fuel under extreme pressure from the injection pump to the injectors.
This may be as high as 1800 bar (26,106 psi). Use extreme caution
when inspecting for high-pressure fuel leaks. Fuel under this amount
of pressure can penetrate skin causing personal injury or death. Inspect
high-pressure fuel leaks with a sheet of cardboard. Wear safety goggles
and adequate protective clothing when servicing fuel system.

The fuel rail pressure sensor (1) screws into the fuel rail (2) at the top of the engine. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses this sensor to monitor the fuel rail pressure.
OPERATION
OPERATION
Review the high pressure fuel system warning.
The fuel flows to the fuel pressure sensor through an opening in the rail, the end of which is sealed off by the sensor diaphragm. Pressurized fuel reaches the sensor's diaphragm through a blind hole. The sensor element (semiconductor device) converts the pressure to an electric signal is mounted on this diaphragm. The signal generated by the sensor is monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

REMOVAL
High pressure fuel spray can cause
severe cuts, and is extremely flammable. Before opening any part of
the high pressure fuel system, wait for a minimum of 30 seconds after
turning off the engine to allow pressure to bleed down from the high
pressure side of the fuel system. Otherwise severe personal injury
can result when the high pressure fuel system is opened.
WARNING:
No sparks, open flames or smoking.
Risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel. Risk of injury
to eyes and skin from contact with fuel. Pour fuels only into suitable
and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing.
WARNING:
When working with parts on the
high side of the fuel injection system such as the fuel rail and high
pressure injector lines, slowly loosen the part to allow any residual
pressure to bleed down from the high pressure side of the system.

The fuel pressure sensor is not a serviceable item. If diagnosis has lead you to replace the fuel pressure sensor, then a new fuel rail has to be installed. |
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the four nuts and the engine cover.

Remove the fuel rail (2) (Refer to 14 - Fuel System/Fuel Delivery/RAIL, Fuel - Removal)

- Install the fuel rail (2) (Refer to 14 - Fuel System/Fuel Delivery/RAIL, Fuel - Installation) .
- Install the engine cover and securely tighten the four nuts.

Connect the negative battery cable.
