LINE, A/C Liquid

2.8L ENGINE

2.8L ENGINE

WARNING:

Refer to the applicable Warnings and Cautions for this system before performing the following operation and . Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.



NOTE:

The A/C liquid line and the A/C suction line are serviced together as an assembly.


  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

    2.  
  2. Remove the engine trim cover.

    3.  
  3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing - Standard Procedure) .

    4.  
  4. Disconnect the charge air cooler outlet hose from the throttle body and position the hose out of the way (Refer to 09 - Engine/Turbocharger System/COOLER and HOSES, Charge Air - Removal) .

    5.  
  5. Remove the coolant recovery container (Refer to 07 - Cooling/Engine/BOTTLE, Coolant Recovery - Removal) .

    6.  
  6. Remove the nut (2) that secures the A/C liquid line (1) to the tapping block of the A/C condenser (3) located in the left front of the engine compartment.

    7.  
  7. Disconnect the A/C liquid line from the A/C condenser and remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.

    8.  
  8. Remove the nut (1) that secure the A/C suction line (2) to the A/C compressor (3).

    9.  
  9. Disconnect the A/C suction line from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.

    10.  
  10. Remove the nut (3) that secures the bracket (2) containing the A/C suction line (1) and A/C liquid line (5) to stud on the cowl panel (4).

    11.  
  11. Carefully disengage the refrigerant line bracket from the stud.

    12.  
  12. Remove the intake manifold (Refer to 09 - Engine/Manifolds/MANIFOLD, Intake - Removal) .

  13. Remove the nut (2) that secures the A/C liquid line (3) and A/C suction line (5) to the A/C expansion valve (1).

    14.  
  14. Disconnect the A/C liquid and suction lines from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.

    15.  
  15. Remove the A/C liquid and suction line assembly (4) from the engine compartment.

    16.  
  16. Install plugs in, or tape over, the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor, condenser and expansion valve ports.

NOTE:

The A/C liquid line and the A/C suction line are serviced together as an assembly.


  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

    2.  
  2. Remove the engine trim cover.

    3.  
  3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing - Standard Procedure) .

    4.  
  4. Disengage the harness brackets (3) from the frame rail and the stud on the A/C compressor (2).

    5.  
  5. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (4) and position the wire harness out of the way.

    6.  
  6. Remove the coolant recovery container (1) (Refer to 07 - Cooling/Engine/BOTTLE, Coolant Recovery - Removal) .

    7.  
  7. Disengage the push-pin retainers (3 and 4) that secure the A/C liquid line (2) to the frame rail and the PCM bracket.

    8.  
  8. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C pressure transducer and remove the transducer from the A/C liquid line, if required (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Controls/TRANSDUCER, A/C Pressure - Removal) .

    9.  
  9. Remove the nut (2) that secures the A/C liquid line (1) to the condenser tapping block (3).

  10. Disconnect the A/C liquid line from the A/C condenser and remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.

  11. Remove the nut (2) that secures the A/C suction line (3) to the A/C compressor (1).

    12.  
  12. Disconnect the A/C suction line from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seal and gasket.

    13.  
  13. Remove the nut (3) that secures the bracket (2) containing the A/C suction line (1) and A/C liquid line (5) to stud on the cowl panel (4).

  14. Disengage the refrigerant line bracket from the stud.

    15.  
  15. Remove the intake manifold (Refer to 09 - Engine/Manifolds/MANIFOLD, Intake - Removal) .

  16. Remove the nut (2) that secures the A/C liquid line (3) and A/C suction line (4) to the A/C expansion valve (1).

    17.  
  17. Disconnect the A/C liquid and suction lines from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.

    18.  
  18. Remove the A/C liquid and suction line assembly from the engine compartment.

    19.  
  19. Install plugs in, or tape over, the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor, condenser and expansion valve ports.

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system . Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.



NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing/OIL, Refrigerant - Standard Procedure) .


NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets could result in a refrigerant system leak.


NOTE:

The A/C liquid line and the A/C suction line are serviced together as an assembly.


  1. Position the A/C liquid and suction line assembly (4) into the engine compartment.

    2.  
  2. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor, condenser and expansion valve ports.

    3.  
  3. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

    4.  
  4. Connect the A/C liquid line (3) and A/C suction line (5) to the A/C expansion valve (1) and install the retaining nut (2). Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (177 in. lbs.).

  5. Install the intake manifold (Refer to 09 - Engine/Manifolds/MANIFOLD, Intake - Installation) .

  6. Engage the refrigerant line bracket (2) onto the stud on the cowl panel (4) and install the retaining nut (3). Tighten the nut securely.

  7. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new gasket onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

  8. Connect the A/C suction line (2) to the A/C compressor (3) and install the retaining nut (1). Tighten the nut to 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.).

  9. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new gasket onto the liquid line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

  10. Connect the A/C liquid line (1) to the condenser tapping block (3) and install the retaining nut (2). Tighten the nut to 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.).

  11. Install the coolant recovery container (Refer to 07 - Cooling/Engine/BOTTLE, Coolant Recovery - Installation) .

  12. Connect the charge air cooler outlet hose to the throttle body (Refer to 09 - Engine/Turbocharger System/COOLER and HOSES, Charge Air - Installation) .

    13.  
  13. Install the engine trim cover.

    14.  
  14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

    15.  
  15. Evacuate the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing - Standard Procedure) .

    16.  
  16. Adjust the refrigerant oil level (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing/OIL, Refrigerant - Standard Procedure) .

    17.  
  17. Charge the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing - Standard Procedure) .

CAUTION:

Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

  4. Connect the A/C liquid line (3) and A/C suction line (4) to the A/C expansion valve (1) and install the retaining nut (2). Tighten the nut to 8 N·m (70 in. lbs.).

  5. Install the intake manifold (Refer to 09 - Engine/Manifolds/MANIFOLD, Intake - Installation) .

  6. Engage the refrigerant line bracket (2) onto the stud located on the cowl panel (4) and install the retaining nut (3). Tighten the nut securely.

  7. Lubricate a new rubber O-ring seal with clean refrigerant oil and install it and a new gasket onto the suction line fitting. Use only the specified O-ring seal as it is made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

  8. Connect the A/C suction line (3) to the A/C compressor (1) and install the retaining nut (2). Tighten the nut to 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.).

  10. Connect the A/C liquid line (1) to the condenser tapping block (3) and install the retaining nut (2). Tighten the nut to 23 N·m (17 ft. lbs.).

  11. Engage the push-pin retainers (3 and 4) that secure the A/C liquid line (2) to the frame rail and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) bracket.

  12. Install the A/C pressure transducer onto the A/C liquid line and connect the wire harness connector (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Controls/TRANSDUCER, A/C Pressure - Installation) .

  13. Install the coolant recovery container (1) (Refer to 07 - Cooling/Engine/BOTTLE, Coolant Recovery - Installation) .

  14. Connect the wire harness connector (1) to the PCM (4) and engage the connector lock.

  15. Engage the wire harness brackets (3) to the frame rail and to the stud on the A/C compressor (2).

  16. Install the engine trim cover.

  17. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

  18. Evacuate the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 - Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing - Standard Procedure) .
