BUCKLE, Seat Belt

FRONT

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury during and following any seat belt or child restraint anchor service, carefully inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps, and anchors for proper installation, operation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut, frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted. Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a damaged or ineffective buckle or retractor. Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Replace any child restraint anchor or the unit to which the anchor is integral that has been bent or damaged. Never attempt to repair a seat belt or child restraint component. Always replace damaged or ineffective seat belt and child restraint components with the correct, new and unused replacement parts listed in the Chrysler Mopar® Parts Catalog. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.




NOTE:

The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged seat belt buckle unit. The front seat belt buckle in this vehicle may include a seat belt tensioner. If the front seat belt buckle is equipped with a tensioner that is ineffective or damaged, but the seat belt tensioner is not deployed, review the recommended procedures for Handling Non-Deployed Supplemental Restraints. (Refer to 10 - Restraints - Standard Procedure) . If the seat belt tensioner has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for Service After A Supplemental Restraint Deployment before removing the unit from the vehicle. (Refer to 10 - Restraints - Standard Procedure) .

  1. Move the front seat to its middle position for easiest access to the front seat mounting provisions.

    2.  
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable from the battery. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.

    3.  
  3. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. (Refer to 23 - Body/Seats/SEAT - Removal) .

    4.  
  4. Disengage the inboard seat cushion trim cover J-hook (6) from the seat cushion trim anchor (5), and pull the inboard side of the trim cover (1) upward far enough to access the front seat belt buckle (2) lower anchor.

  5. Reach under the seat cushion frame to access and disconnect the seat belt buckle pigtail wire (4) connector from the seat wire harness.

    6.  
  6. Remove the screw (3) that secures the front seat belt buckle lower anchor to the inboard side of the front seat cushion frame.

    7.  
  7. Disengage the seat belt buckle and scabbard from the opening in the inboard side of the front seat cushion trim cover.

  8. Remove the seat belt buckle or the buckle and tensioner unit from the front seat as a unit.

REAR CENTER AND LEFT - FOUR DOOR

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury during and following any seat belt or child restraint anchor service, carefully inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps, and anchors for proper installation, operation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut, frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted. Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a damaged or ineffective buckle or retractor. Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Replace any child restraint anchor or the unit to which the anchor is integral that has been bent or damaged. Never attempt to repair a seat belt or child restraint component. Always replace damaged or ineffective seat belt and child restraint components with the correct, new and unused replacement parts listed in the Chrysler Mopar® Parts Catalog. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.


  1. Fold the 60 percent second row seat back flat for easiest access to the center seat belt buckle (1) anchor, or the 40 percent seat back flat for easiest access to the left seat belt buckle (3) anchor.

  2. Remove the nut (4) that secures the center or the left seat belt buckle anchor plate to the stud on the center seat bracket, hinge and latch unit (2).

    3.  
  3. Remove the buckle anchor plate from the stud.

    4.  
  4. Move the second row seat back to the uptight position.

    5.  
  5. Disengage the center or left second row seat belt buckle unit from the elastic loop integral to the seat cushion trim cover and remove the buckle from the vehicle.

REAR RIGHT - FOUR DOOR

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury during and following any seat belt or child restraint anchor service, carefully inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps, and anchors for proper installation, operation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut, frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted. Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a damaged or ineffective buckle or retractor. Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Replace any child restraint anchor or the unit to which the anchor is integral that has been bent or damaged. Never attempt to repair a seat belt or child restraint component. Always replace damaged or ineffective seat belt and child restraint components with the correct, new and unused replacement parts listed in the Chrysler Mopar® Parts Catalog. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.




NOTE:

The anchor plates for the right second row seat belt buckle (4) and the second row center seat belt anchor (1) are secured to each other by a soft metal grommet as an assembly aid during the manufacturing process and, once removed, the grommet does not require reinstallation.

  1. Fold the 60 percent second row seat back flat for easiest access to the right second row seat belt buckle (4) and the second row center seat belt anchor (1) screw.

    2.  
  2. Remove the screw (3) that secures the right second row seat belt buckle anchor plate and the center second row seat belt anchor plate to the rear floor panel.

    3.  
  3. Remove the two anchor plates from the rear floor panel as a unit.

    4.  
  4. Using an appropriate drill or chisel, carefully remove the soft metal grommet (2) that secures the two anchor plates to each other.

  5. Move the 60 percent second row seat back to the uptight position.

    6.  
  6. Disengage the right second row seat belt buckle unit from the elastic loop integral to the seat cushion trim cover and remove the buckle from the vehicle.

REAR - TWO DOOR

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury during and following any seat belt or child restraint anchor service, carefully inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps, and anchors for proper installation, operation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut, frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted. Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a damaged or ineffective buckle or retractor. Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Replace any child restraint anchor or the unit to which the anchor is integral that has been bent or damaged. Never attempt to repair a seat belt or child restraint component. Always replace damaged or ineffective seat belt and child restraint components with the correct, new and unused replacement parts listed in the Chrysler Mopar® Parts Catalog. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.


  1. Remove the screw (1) that secures the right and left seat belt buckle unit (2) anchor plate to the second row seat cushion frame (3).

  2. Remove the buckle unit from the second row seat.

NOTE:

The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged seat belt buckle unit. The front seat belt buckle in this vehicle may include a seat belt tensioner. If the front seat belt buckle is equipped with a tensioner that is ineffective or damaged, but the seat belt tensioner is not deployed, review the recommended procedures for Handling Non-Deployed Supplemental Restraints. (Refer to 10 - Restraints - Standard Procedure) . If the seat belt tensioner has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for Service After A Supplemental Restraint Deployment before removing the unit from the vehicle. (Refer to 10 - Restraints - Standard Procedure) .

  1. Engage the seat belt buckle (2) and scabbard through the opening in the inboard side of the front seat cushion trim cover (1).

  2. Position the buckle or buckle and tensioner unit lower anchor onto the inboard side of the seat cushion frame.

    3.  
  3. Install and tighten the screw (3) that secures the front seat belt buckle lower anchor to the seat cushion frame. Tighten the screw to 45 N·m (33 ft. lbs.).

  4. Reconnect the seat belt buckle pigtail wire (4) connector to the seat wire harness under the seat cushion frame.

    5.  
  5. Reinstall the inboard seat cushion trim cover J-hook (6) onto the seat cushion trim anchor (5).

  6. Reinstall the front seat into the vehicle. (Refer to 23 - Body/Seats/SEAT - Installation) .

  7. If the buckle is equipped with a tensioner, do not reconnect the negative cable to the battery at this time. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Verification Test procedure should be performed following service of any SRS component. (Refer to 10 - Restraints - Standard Procedure) .

  1. With both second row seat backs in the uptight position, engage the anchor plate and webbing for the center or left second row seat belt buckle unit through the elastic loop integral to the seat cushion trim cover and between the seat back and cushion.

    2.  
  2. Fold the 60 percent second row seat back flat for easiest access to the center seat belt buckle (1) anchor, or the 40 percent seat back flat for easiest access to the left seat belt buckle (3) anchor.

    3.  
  3. Position the center or left seat belt buckle unit anchor plate onto the stud on the center seat bracket, hinge and latch unit (2).

    4.  
  4. Install and tighten the nut (4) that secures the buckle unit to the stud. Tighten the nut to 45 N·m (33 ft. lbs.).

  5. Restore the second row seat back to the uptight position.

  1. Position the right and left seat belt buckle unit (2) anchor plate to the second row seat cushion frame (3).

  2. Install and tighten the screw (1) that secures the anchor plate and buckle unit to the seat cushion frame. Tighten the screw to 55 N·m (41 ft. lbs.).
