ARM, Upper Control

DESCRIPTION

The Upper suspension arms are steel and use bushings at each end of the arm. The arms are mounted from the frame to the axle brackets.

OPERATION

The bushings isolate axle and road noise. The arm and bushings provide location and react to loads from the axle.

REMOVAL

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.

  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

  3. Remove the upper suspension arm flagnut and bolt at the axle bracket.

    4.  
  4. Remove the flagnut and bolt (1) at the frame rail mount and remove the upper suspension arm (2).

INSTALLATION

NOTE:

Position the paint dot located on the control arm toward the axle and facing outboard. If paint dot is not visible, the bend should point inboard, and the short end should attach to the axle side.

  1. Position the upper suspension arm (2) in the axle bracket and frame rail mount.

  2. Install the mounting bolt (1) and finger tighten.

  3. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

  4. Tighten the upper suspension arm bolts to 159 N·m (117 ft. lbs.) with vehicle weight.
