U0001-CAN C BUS

Possible Causes

When Monitored:
- With the ignition on
- Battery voltage between 10 and 16 volts
- Ignition Off Draw (IOD) fused installed.
Set Condition:
The Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) detects a corrupt CAN C Bus message.

(D65) CAN C BUS (+) CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
(D64) CAN C BUS (-) CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
(D65) CAN C BUS (+) CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (D64) CAN C BUS (-) CIRCUIT
ANTILOCK BRAKE MODULE
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - GAS ONLY
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) - DIESEL ONLY
TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE
STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (SAS)
AUTOMATIC SWAY BAR SYSTEM MODULE
WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE (WCM)
TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM)
OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)

1. VERIFY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IS ACTIVE

NOTE: Make sure the IOD fuse is installed and battery voltage is between 10 and 16 volts before proceeding.

1.	Turn the ignition on.

2.	With the scan tool in, read the active ORC DTCs.

Does the scan tool display active U0001-CAN C BUS DTC?

Yes

Go To 2

Perform the Stored Lost Communication DTCs diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 29 - Non-DTC Diagnostics/Communication - Diagnosis and Testing) .

2. VERIFY OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER

WARNING:

Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

1.	Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.

WARNING:

Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

2.	With the scan tool, record and erase TIPM DTCs.

3.	Cycle the ignition from on to off three times.

4.	Turn the ignition on.

5.	With the scan tool, read the active DTCs in all modules.

Is the U0001-CAN C BUS DTC active in other modules?

Yes

(Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Totally Integrated Power (TIPM) - Diagnosis and Testing) and perform the U0001-CAN C BUS DTC.

Inspect the wiring and connectors for damage or shorted circuits.
If ok, replace the Occupant Restraint Controller in accordance with the Service Information.
Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure).
