When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

Set Condition:
The (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit voltage is below 0.25 Volt for 0.14 second.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
| NOTE: | If any Sensor Reference DTCs are present, perform those diagnostic procedures before continuing with this test. |
| 1. | Ignition on, engine not running. |
| 2. | With the scan tool, select View DTCs. |
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
2. CHECK THE (K844) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT VOLTAGE
| 1. | Turn the ignition off. |
| 2. | Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
| 3. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 4. | Measure the voltage of the (K844) 5-Volt Supply circuit at the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
Is the voltage above 4.8 Volts?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (K844) 5-Volt Supply circuit for an open circuit or a short to ground condition.

Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM)
- Standard Procedure).
| 1. | Reconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
| 2. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 3. | With the scan tool, Erase DTCs. |
| 4. | Turn the ignition off. |
| 5. | Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
| 6. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 7. | With the scan tool, select View DTCs. |
| NOTE: | The scan tool should display a P0193-Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor High DTC with the connector unplugged. |
Does the scan tool display the DTC as described above?
Yes
-
Replace the Fuel Rail Assembly in accordance with the service information.
NOTE: The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is not serviceable separate from the Fuel Rail Assembly. - Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
- Go To 4
4. CHECK THE (K181) FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
| 1. | Turn the ignition off. |
| 2. | Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. |
| 3. | Measure the resistance between ground and the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit at the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit for a short to ground.

Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM)
- Standard Procedure).
5. CHECK FOR THE (K181) FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO THE (K359) FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
| 1. | Measure the resistance between the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit and the (K359) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Ground circuit at the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Repair the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit for a short to the (K359) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Ground circuit.

Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM)
- Standard Procedure).
| 1. | Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). |
| 2. | Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. |
| 3. | Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. |
| 4. | Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply. |
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
