P0524-ENGINE OIL PRESSURE IS TOO LOW

When Monitored:
With the engine running.
-
Set Condition:
The Oil Pressure Sensor indicates low oil pressure for five seconds.
Possible Causes |

| MECHANICAL PROBLEM |
| OIL PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE |
| HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT(S) |
| NOTE: | Ensure the engine oil level is at the specified level and the engine oil filter is the specified filter for this specific engine application. |
| NOTE: | If there are Engine Oil Pressure Sensor circuit High/Low DTCs, repair the circuit High/Low DTCs before continuing with this test. |
| 1. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 2. | With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs. |
| 3. | Start the engine several times, letting the engine run for at least 30 seconds at a time. |
| 4. | With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs. |
Did this DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
| 1. | Use an appropriate gauge and check the actual engine oil pressure. |
Is the oil pressure reading within specification?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
3. CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUITS
| 1. | Turn the ignition off. |
| 2. | Disconnect the Oil Pressure Sensor harness connector. |
| 3. | Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. |
| 4. | Measure the resistance of each of the Oil Pressure Sensor circuits between the Oil Pressure Sensor and the PCM C1 harness connector. |
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms for each of the measurements?
Yes
- Replace the Oil Pressure Sensor in accordance with the service information. (Refer to 09 - Engine/Lubrication/SENSOR, Oil Pressure - Removal) .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
- Repair the Oil Pressure Sensor circuit(s) that measured above 5.0 Ohms for high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
