For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Possible Causes

THE REVERSE SWITCH IS DISCONNECTED
THE REVERSE SWITCH AND THE NEUTRAL SWITCH HARNESS CONNECTORS ARE REVERSED
(T2) REVERSE SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT IS OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
(T2) REVERSE SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR READING OUT OF RANGE
FAULTY OR STICKING REVERSE SWITCH
TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).

1. DTC IS ACTIVE

NOTE: Repair any Vehicle Speed Sensor DTCs that are present before continuing with this test procedure.
1. Ignition on, engine not running.
2. With the scan tool, Clear DTCs in the PCM.
3. Test drive the vehicle over 37 MPH (60 KPH).
4. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

Is the status Active for this DTC?

Yes

No

2. CHECK FOR THE REVERSE SWITCH AND THE NEUTRAL SWITCH HARNESS CONNECTORS REVERSED

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Using the wiring diagram as a guide, check for the Reverse Switch and Neutral Switch harness connectors reversed.

Are the Reverse Switch and Neutral Switch harness connectors reversed?

Yes

No

3. CHECK THE (T2) REVERSE SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the TIPM C1 harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Reverse Switch harness connector.
4. Measure the resistance between ground and the (T2) Reverse Switch Signal circuit at the TIPM C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

Yes

No

4. CHECK THE (T2) REVERSE SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE

1. Measure the resistance of the (T2) Reverse Switch Signal circuit between the Reverse Switch harness connector and the TIPM C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes

No

5. REVERSE SWITCH

1. Replace the Reverse Switch in accordance with the service information.
2. Reconnect the Reverse Switch harness connector.
3. Reconnect the TIPM C1 harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
6. Start the engine and test drive the vehicle. Shift the vehicle in and out of reverse several times.
7. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

Did the DTC return?

Yes

No

6. TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE

1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Reverse Switch and the Totally Integrated Power Module.
2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

Were any problems found?
