P2031-EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT - BANK 1 SENSOR 2
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
-
When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
-
Set Condition:
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects that the (K380) Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 Signal circuit voltage is implausible.
Possible Causes |
|---|
| HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K380) EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT |
| HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K385) SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT |
| EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/2 |
| POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) |
Always perform the Post-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
| 1. | Ignition on, engine not running. |
| 2. | With the scan tool, select View DTCs. |
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
2. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K380) EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT
| 1. | Turn the ignition off. |
| 2. | Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 harness connector. |
| 3. | Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. |
| 4. | Measure the resistance of the (K380) Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 Signal circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector. |
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (K380) Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 Signal circuit for an open circuit or high resistance.
-
Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM)
- Standard Procedure).
3. CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K385) SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT
| 1. | Measure the resistance of the (K385) Sensor Return circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector. |
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (K385) Sensor Return circuit for an open or high resistance.
-
Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM)
- Standard Procedure).
4. EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR
| 1. | Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector. |
| 2. | Turn the ignition on. |
| 3. | With the scan tool, select View DTCs. |
| 4. | Connect a jumper wire between the (K385) Sensor Return circuit and the (K380) Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 Signal circuit at the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 harness connector. |
| 5. | With the scan tool, View DTCs. |
| NOTE: | The scan tool should display a P2033-Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit High as active with the connector unplugged and a P2032-Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Low DTC as active with the jumper wire in place. |
Does the scan tool display the DTCs as described above?
Yes
- Replace the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/2 in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).
No
