P2080-EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE

Possible Causes

(K384) EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).


1. DTC IS ACTIVE


1. Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
2. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
3. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.


Is the status Active for this DTC?

Yes


No


2. CHECK THE (K384) EXHAUST TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/1 SIGNAL FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE



1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector.
3. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
4. Measure the resistance of the (K384) Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 Signal circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.


Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

Yes


No


3. EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/1


1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Replace the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1.
3. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
4. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
5. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.


Did the DTC return?

Yes


No


4. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE


1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 and the Powertrain Control Module.
2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
