FUEL INJECTOR
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 28 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure).

1. DTC IS ACTIVE

NOTE: This DTC can set as a result of a short circuit in either of the bank 2 injector circuits (Fuel Injector two or three). Be sure to check all bank 2 injector circuits before replacing an injector and all injectors before replacing a module.
1. Ignition on, engine not running.
2. With the scan tool, clear DTCs in the PCM.
3. Attempt to start the engine and test drive the vehicle.
4. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

Is the status Active for this DTC?

Yes

No

2. CHECK THE BANK 2 FUEL INJECTOR HIGH SIDE CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect each Fuel Injector 2 harness connector.
3. Disconnect each Fuel Injector 3 harness connector.
4. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
5. Remove the ASD Relay from the TIPM.
6. Connect a jumper wire between cavity 30 and cavity 87 of the ASD Relay connector.
7. Turn the ignition on.
8. Measure the voltage of the:

  • (K12) Fuel Injector 2 High-Side Control circuit at the Fuel Injector harness connector.
  • (K13) Fuel Injector 3 High-Side Control circuit at the Fuel Injector harness connector.

Is there voltage present on any of the circuits?

Yes

No

3. CHECK THE BANK 2 FUEL INJECTOR HIGH SIDE CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

NOTE: Remove the jumper wire and reinstall the relay.
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Measure the resistance between ground and the:

  • (K12) Fuel Injector 2 High-Side Control circuit at the Fuel Injector harness connector.
  • (K13) Fuel Injector 3 High-Side Control circuit at the Fuel Injector harness connector.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms for both of the circuits?

Yes

No

4. CHECK FOR THE FUEL INJECTOR HIGH-SIDE CONTROL CIRCUITS SHORTED TO THE FUEL INJECTOR LOW-SIDE CONTROL CIRCUITS

1. Measure the resistance between the (K12) Fuel Injector 2 High-Side Control circuit and the (K612) Fuel Injector 2 Low-Side Control circuit in the Fuel Injector 2 harness connector.

2. Measure the resistance between the (K13) Fuel Injector 3 High-Side Control circuit and the (K613) Fuel Injector 3 Low-Side Control circuit in the Fuel Injector 3 harness connector.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms for both measurements?

Yes

No

5. FUEL INJECTOR

1. Measure the resistance across the terminals of Fuel Injector 1 and Fuel Injector 4.

NOTE: We are measuring the resistance through each injector.

Is the resistance between 150k and 210k Ohms for each injector?

Yes

No

6. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Fuel Injectors and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

Were any problems found?

Yes

No
