BOTTLE, Coolant Recovery

GAS ENGINE

The coolant reserve/overflow system consists of a radiator mounted pressurized cap, a plastic coolant recovery bottle, a hose connecting the radiator and recovery bottle, and an overflow tube on the side of the bottle.

The reservoir bottle also has an anti-slosh insert located within the bottle, this insert will aid in reducing coolant loss from splash and spillage.

DIESEL ENGINE

The coolant recovery system consists of a radiator, a plastic coolant recovery container with a pressurized cap, a hose connecting the radiator and the pressurized coolant recovery container, and an overflow tube on the side of the bottle.

OPERATION

The system works in conjunction with the radiator pressure cap. This is achieved by using thermal expansion and contraction of the coolant to keep the coolant free of trapped air. It provides:

• A volume for coolant expansion and contraction.
• A convenient and safe method for checking/adjusting coolant level at atmospheric pressure. This is done without removing the radiator pressure cap.
• Some reserve coolant to the radiator to cover minor leaks and evaporation or boiling losses.

As the engine cools, a vacuum is formed in the cooling system of both the radiator and engine. Coolant will then be drawn from the coolant tank and returned to a proper level in the radiator.

GAS ENGINE

1. Disconnect the hose from radiator filler neck located below the radiator cap (1).

 
2. Remove coolant recovery bottle (3).
   

 

DIESEL ENGINE

1. Remove coolant recovery container pressure cap (1).

 
2. Drain the cooling system (Refer to 07 - Cooling - Standard Procedure) .

 
3. Remove and plug coolant recovery tube (3).

 
4. Remove mounting nuts.

 
5. Remove coolant recovery container (2) from vehicle.
   

 

GAS ENGINE

1. Position the tabs located on the coolant recovery container (3) into the slots on the fan shroud.

 
2. Reconnect the overflow hose onto the radiator filler neck.

 
3. Fill coolant recovery container (3) (Refer to 07 - Cooling - Standard Procedure) .
   

 

DIESEL ENGINE

1. Position coolant recovery container (2).

 
2. Install mounting nuts. Tighten to nuts 10 N·m (89 in. lbs.).

 
3. Unplug and install coolant recovery tube (3).

 
4. Fill the cooling system (Refer to 07 - Cooling - Standard Procedure) .

 
5. Install coolant recovery container pressure cap (1).
