Fuel System Pressure

RELIEVING

CAUTION
Fuel injection systems remain under pressure after the engine has been turned OFF. Properly relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire or personal injury. Do not allow fuel spray or fuel vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher nearby. Never store fuel in an open container due to risk of fire or explosion.

1993-94 323 1.6L (B6E) and 1993-97 MX3 1.6L (B6-ZE), 1.8L (K8) and Protege 1.5L (Z5D), 1.8L (BPD, BPE) Engines

1. Release the rear seat retainers (clips or catches) and remove rear seat cushion.
2. Remove the fuel pump cover.
3. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
4. Start the engine, allowing it to idle until it runs out of fuel.
5. After the engine stalls, reconnect the fuel pump connector and turn the ignition switch OFF.

1993-97 626 and MX6 2.0L (FS) and 2.5L (KL) engines

1. Start the engine.
2. Remove the fuel pump relay from the relay box, located in the right side of the engine compartment.
3. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch to OFF and reinstall the relay connector.

1993-95 929 3.0L (JE-ZE) engines

1. Start the engine.
2. Remove the circuit opening relay connector from the relay box, located in the right side of the engine compartment.
3. After the engine stalls, reinstall the relay connector and turn the ignition switch OFF.

1995-97 Millenia 2.3L (KJS) Engine

1. Remove the cruise actuator mounting nuts, and move the cruise actuator to the side.
2. Start the engine.
3. Remove the fuel pump relay from the relay box, located in the right side of the engine compartment.
4. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch to OFF and reinstall the relay connector.
5. Position and install the cruise actuator.

1995-97 Millenia 2.5L (KLD) Engine

1. Start the engine.
2. Remove the fuel pump relay from the relay box, located in the right side of the engine compartment.
3. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch to OFF and reinstall the relay connector.

1993-97 Miata 1.6L (B6-ZE) and 1.8L (BPD) Engine

1. Start the engine.
2. Disconnect the circuit opening relay connector.
3. After the engine stalls, reinstall the relay connector and turn the ignition switch OFF.

1993-95 RX7 1.3L (13B) Engines

1. Start the engine.
2. Remove the circuit opening relay connector from the relay box, located in the right side of the engine compartment.
3. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch OFF and reinstall the relay connector.
