Idle Speed

ADJUSTMENT

1993-94 323 and 1993-95 MX3 1.6L, 1995 MX3 1.6L (B6-ZE), 1993-97 626/MX6 2.0L (FS), 1995-97 Protege 1.5L (Z5D) Engine

Manual Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in neutral.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 650-750 rpm, adjust if necessary.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.

6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

Automatic Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Check the idle speed and adjust, if necessary; it should be 700-800 rpm.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.

6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1993-95 929 3.0L engine

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Check the idle speed and adjust, if necessary; it should be 680-720 rpm.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1993-94 MX3 1.8L (VIN K8) and Protege 1.8L (VIN BP) engines

Manual Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in neutral.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 700-800 rpm, adjust if necessary.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

Automatic Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Check the idle speed and adjust, if necessary; it should be 700-800 rpm.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.

7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1995 MX3 1.8L (K8) Engine

1. Apply the parking brake. If equipped with a manual transaxle, place the shift lever in Neutral. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are off.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 640-700 rpm; adjust if necessary.
5. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
6. Remove all test equipment.

1993-94 626/MX6 and 1995-97 Millenia 2.5L (KL) and 2.3L (KJS) Engines

1. Apply the parking brake. If equipped with a manual transaxle, place the shift lever in NEUTRAL. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 600-700 rpm; adjust if necessary.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the data link terminals TEN and GND.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1995-97 626 and MX6 2.0L (FS) Engine

Manual Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in NEUTRAL.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 650-750 rpm, adjust if necessary.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and theGND terminal of the data link connector.
6. Remove the jumper wire.
7. Remove all test equipment.

Automatic Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Check the idle speed and adjust, if necessary; it should be 700 ± 50 rpm.
5. Remove the shorting bar from the double wire SPOUT connector.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Install the shorting bar to the double wire SPOUT connector.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1995-97 626, MX6 2.5L (KL) Engines

1. Apply the parking brake. If equipped with a manual transaxle, place the shift lever in NEUTRAL. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories areOFF .
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 600-700 rpm; adjust if necessary.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the data link terminals TEN andGND .
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1995-97 Miata 1.8L (BPD) Engines

Manual Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in neutral.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Verify that the idle speed is between 800-900 rpm, adjust if necessary.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

Automatic Transaxle

1. Apply the parking brake. Place the shift lever in P.
2. Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Check the idle speed and adjust, if necessary; it should be 750-850 rpm.
5. Connect a jumper wire between the TEN terminal and the GND terminal of the data link connector.
6. Adjust the idle speed by turning the air adjusting screw.
7. Remove the jumper wire.
8. Remove all test equipment.

1993-95 RX7 1.3L (13B)

The idle speed is controlled automatically by the idle speed control solenoid valve (ISC) and adjustment is not necessary.
