CAUTION
The air bag system must be disarmed before removing the steering wheel.
Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment, property damage or personal
injury.
- Remove the driver-side side and lower panels.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable, and disarm
the air bag.
-
Remove the steering wheel.
CAUTION
Always carry an air bag assembly, with the bag and trim cover, away
from your body. Store the assembly facing upward; never place the assembly
face down on any surface.
- Remove the 2 column cover screws and remove the cover.
- Disconnect the electrical connections from the combination
switch.
- Remove the combination switch as an assembly.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Check the switch operation.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the steering column covers.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the stop ring from the shaft.
- Remove the switch retaining screws. Remove the combination
switch from its mounting.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
CAUTION
When carrying a live air bag, make sure the bag and trim cover are pointed
away from the body. In the unlikely event of an accidental deployment,
the bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. When placing a
live air bag on a bench or other surface, always face the bag and trim
cover up, away from the surface. This will reduce the motion of the module
if it is accidently deployed.
