WARNING
If the switch is faulty, the engine may start with the vehicle "in gear". If
this happens the vehicle will accelerate when the engine starts. Keep the brakes
on and be ready to switch the key off instantly.
- Locate the neutral safety switch on the top of the transaxle.
- Place the selector lever in N.
- Loosen the 2 adjusting nuts to free up the cable and lever.
- Place the safety switch manual control lever in N.
- Note that 1 end of the safety switch manual control lever and the switch
body have a hole in the ends. These holes, if properly adjusted, should be
aligned.
- If adjustment is required, loosen the mounting bolt and rotate the switch
body until they are in alignment. Tighten the locknut to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
- Loosen the adjuster nuts and gently pull the transaxle control cable to
remove any slack. Tighten the nut to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
- Verify that the switch lever moves to positions corresponding to each position
of the selector lever.
- Make sure the engine only starts in P and N.
Also make sure the reverse lights turn ON in R.
