G–Sensor

The G-sensor is used only on the AWD vehicles. It is mounted under the rear seat cushion, directly between the seat belt heads on 1991–94 vehicles. On 1995–98 vehicles, the sensor is mounted behind the front floor console. The sensor transmits acceleration and deceleration information to the Anti-lock control unit. This data is used in conjunction with individual wheel speed and engine data, allowing the controller to determine the approximate road friction. This friction factor is then used to compute the proper control of the solenoid valves.
