Disc Brake Pads

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Diamante and Galant
FRONT AND REAR
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4. Remove the caliper guide and lock pins and lift the caliper assembly from the caliper support.

    NOTE: On some vehicles, the caliper can be flipped up by leaving the upper pin in place and using it as a pivot point.

  5. Remove the brake pads, spring clip and shims.

    To install:

  6. Compress the pistons back into the caliper bore.
  7. Lubricate slide points and install the brake pads, shims and spring clip onto the caliper support. Install the caliper over the brake pads.
  8. Lubricate and install the caliper guide and lock pins in their original positions. Tighten guide and locking pins to 54 ft. lbs. (75 Nm) on the front, and 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm) on the rear.
  9. Install the wheels.
Mirage and Eclipse
FRONT
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4. Remove the caliper guide and lock pins and lift the caliper assembly from the caliper support.

    NOTE: On some vehicles, the caliper can be flipped up by leaving the upper pin in place and using it as a pivot point.

  5. Remove the brake pads, spring clip and shims.

    To install:

  6. Compress pistons back into the caliper bore.
  7. Lubricate slide points and install the brake pads, shims and spring clips onto the caliper support. Install the caliper over the brake pads.
  8. Lubricate and install the caliper guide and lock pins in their original positions.
  9. Install the wheels.
REAR
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjustment from inside the vehicle.
  4. Remove the wheels.
  5. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
  6. Remove the caliper lower pin and swing the caliper assembly upwards.
  7. Remove the outer shim, brake pads and spring clips from the caliper support.
  8. On the Eclipse model, compress the piston into the caliper bore. On the Mirage and Galant models, thread the piston into the caliper bore clockwise using disc brake driver tool MB990652.

    To install:

  9. Lubricate all sliding and pivot points. Install the brake pads, shims and spring clip to the caliper support. Install the caliper over the brake pads.
  10. Lubricate, install and tighten the lower pin.
  11. Install the wheels.
3000GT
FRONT AND REAR
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove approximately 13 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4. On the front of All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles, remove the pad retaining pins and pull the pads out of the caliper body.
  5. On others, remove the lock pin and swing the caliper upward and support it with a wire. Remove the pads and retainers.

    To install:

  6. Compress the pistons back into the caliper bore.
  7. Install the pads and retainers.
  8. On AWD front disc brakes, apply a small amount of multi-purpose grease to the inner pad shims.
  9. Install the caliper to the caliper support.
  10. Install the wheels and torque to 87–101 ft. lbs. (120–140 Nm).
