COMPONENT TESTING

Testing Hints

The following procedures assume that the technician has checked the following:

  1. Continuity of all harness wires.
  2. Wiper motor and wiper/washer switch connectors are mated correctly.
  3. If the wiper motor operates but the wipers do not; check the wiper linkage and wiper motor crank arm.
  4. Wiper motor-to-dash mounting screws tight for good ground.
  5. Fuses are good.
  6. Washer hoses clear, fluid in tank.

NOTE: Prior to starting the diagnosis procedure, it is very important to confirm the reported condition with a complete operational check including the washer system.

Windshield Wiper Motor Test
MONTERO
  1. With the wiper motor installed in vehicle, disconnect the wiring harness connector.
  2. Connect a battery to the wiper motor as shown and check the motor operation at both low and high speeds.
  3. Run the motor low speed, disconnect the battery and stop the motor .
  4. Reconnect the battery as shown in the illustration confirm that the motor starts operating at the low speed and it stops at the automatic stop position.

PICK-UP
  1. With the wiper motor installed in vehicle, disconnect the wiring harness connector.
  2. Connect a battery to the wiper motor connector and check the motor operation.
  3. Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal 3 and the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal 1 and check that the motor runs at low speed.
  4. Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal 3 and the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal 2 and check that the motor runs at high speed.
  5. Check the automatic stop operation by connecting the battery positive (+) terminal the terminal 3 and the battery negative (-) terminal to terminal 1 to run the motor at low speed. Then disconnect terminal 3 during operation to stop the motor.
  6. Connect terminal 1 to terminal 4 and connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal 3 and the battery negative (-) terminal to the wiper motor bracket and check that the motor starts to run at low speed and then stops.
