Place the locking hub in the free position. To do this, shift the transfer
shift lever to the 2H position, then move the vehicle 4–7 ft. (1–2
m) backwards.
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning
of this section.
Remove or disconnect the following:
Front wheels of the vehicle
Hub cover
Snapring from the axle shaft
Shim
Drive flange
Front brake assembly
Speed sensor, if equipped
Lock washer
Lock nut
Front hub assembly
To install:
Install or connect the following:
Front hub assembly
Lock nut. Torque the nut as follows:
Step 1: Torque the nut to 119 ft. lbs. (162 Nm).
Step 2: Loosen to 0 ft. lbs. (0 Nm).
Step 3: Torque the nut to 18 ft lbs. (25 Nm).
Step 4: Loosen the nut 30–40 degrees.
Install or connect the following:
Lock washer
Speed sensor, if equipped
Front brake assembly. Torque the bolts to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm).
Drive flange. Torque the bolts to 36–43 ft. lbs. (49–59
Nm).
