To Remove:
| Upper oil pan parts and torque specifications

- Remove the drain plug and gasket.
- Remove the starter connector and the Starter.
- Remove the oil gauge and guide.
- Remove the O-ring.
- Remove the Lower Oil Pan.
- Remove the cover.
- To remove the upper oil pan, remove the bolt marked (A) in the illustration, then remove the rest of the bolts.
- Screw a bolt into the bolt hole marked (1) in the illustration (at both ends) to remove the oil pan.
CAUTION
Do not use oil pan remover (#MD998727) because it can damage the upper oil pan.
To Install:

- Before installation, examine the oil pan for cracks, deformation, and damage.
- To install the upper oil pan, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Remove the sealant from the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces.
- Step 2: Degrease the sealant-coated surface and engine mating surface.
- Step 3: Apply sealant (Mitsubishi #MD970389 or equivalent) in a continuous bead about .16 in (4 mm) in diameter around the gasket surface of the oil pan as illustrated. Install the oil pan within 15 minutes, while the sealant is still wet.
- Step 4: Tighten the oil pan mounting bolts in the order shown in the illustration.
CAUTION
The holes for bolts 15 and 16 are cut away on the transmission side, so make sure not to insert these bolts at an angle.
- Install the cover.
- Install the Lower Oil Pan.
- Install the O-ring.
- Install the oil gauge and guide.
- Install the Starter and the starter connector.
- Install the drain plug and gasket.
