To Remove:

NOTE: Fasteners marked with * should be hand tightened until the body weight is supporting the full engine weight, then they should be fully torqued to their specifications.

- Remove the transaxle control cable connection.
- Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler hoses.
- Remove the connector for the PNP switch.
- Remove the A/T control solenoid valve connector.
- Remove the connector for the input shaft speed sensor.
- Remove the connector for the output shaft speed sensor.
- Remove the connector for the vehicle speed sensor.
- Remove the split pin.
CAUTION
Before you use the special tool (MB991113), make sure to loosen the tie-rod end mounting nut. Only loosen the nut and do not remove it from the ball joint. Also make sure to support the special tool with a cord to keep it from coming off.
- Disconnect the tie rod end.
- Remove the Drive Shaft nut.
- Disconnect the lower arm ball joint.
- To remove the Drive Shaft and inner shaft assembly (RH) and the Drive Shaft (LH), do the following:
- Step 1: Insert a pry bar between the transaxle case and the Drive Shaft to remove the Drive Shaft.
NOTE: Do not remove the hub and knuckle from the drive shaft.
CAUTION
Be sure to use a pry bar, otherwise the ball joint will be damaged.
- Step 2: Lightly strike the center bearing with a plastic hammer or similar object and pull out the inner shaft (RH) from the transmission.
- Step 3: Suspend the removed Drive Shaft with a wire so that there are no sharp bends in any of the joints.
- Use a shop cloth to cover the transaxle case to keep out foreign material.
- Remove the Starter Motor and the center member assembly.
- Remove the rear roll stopper bracket.
- Remove the transaxle upper portion fixing bolt.
- Remove the transaxle mounting bracket by carefully jacking up the transaxle assembly with a garage jack and removing the transaxle mounting.
- Remove the transaxle mount stopper.
- Safely support the engine and transaxle assembly with special tools (MZ203827) and (MB991453) as shown in illustration.
- Remove the bell housing cover.
- To remove the Drive Plate bolts, the transaxle lower portion fixing bolts, and the transaxle assembly, do the following:
- Step 1: Safely support the transaxle assembly by using a transaxle jack.
- Step 2: Remove the Drive Plate bolts as you turn the crank shaft.
- Step 3: Press in the torque converter toward the transaxle side so that the torque converter does not stay on the engine side.
- Step 4: Remove the transaxle assembly lower bolts and lower the transaxle assembly.
To Install:

- To install the transaxle assembly, securely insert the torque converter into the transaxle side so that the dimension is about .37 in (9.4 mm) then install the transaxle assembly into the engine.
- Install the bell housing cover.
- Safely remove the special tools (MZ203827) and (MB991453) as shown in illustration.
- Install the transaxle mount stopper so the arrow mark on it points in the direction shown in the illustration.
- Install the transaxle mounting bracket.
- Install the transaxle upper portion fixing bolt.
- Install the rear roll stopper bracket.
- Install the Starter Motor and the center member assembly.
- Properly install the Drive Shaft and inner shaft assembly (RH) and the Drive Shaft (LH).
- Connect the lower arm ball joint.
- Install the Drive Shaft nut.
- Connect the tie rod end.
- Install the split pin.
- Install the connector for the vehicle speed sensor.
- Install the connector for the output shaft speed sensor.
- Install the connector for the input shaft speed sensor.
- Install the A/T control solenoid valve connector.
- Install the connector for the PNP switch.
- Connect the transaxle oil cooler hoses.
- Install the transaxle control cable connection.
