Automatic Locking Hubs

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1. Place the locking hub in the free position. To do this, shift the transfer shift lever to the 2H position, then move the vehicle 4-7 ft. (1-2 m) backwards.
2. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Front wheels of the vehicle
   • Hub cover
   • Snapring from the axle shaft
   • Shim
   • Drive flange
   • Front brake assembly
   • Speed sensor, if equipped
   • Lock washer
   • Lock nut
   • Front hub assembly

   To install:

4. Install or connect the following:
   • Front hub assembly
   • Lock nut. Torque the nut as follows:
   1. Step 1: Torque the nut to 119 ft. lbs. (162 Nm).
   2. Step 2: Loosen to 0 ft. lbs. (0 Nm).
   3. Step 3: Torque the nut to 18 ft lbs. (25 Nm).
   4. Step 4: Loosen the nut 30-40 degrees.
5. Install or connect the following:
   • Lock washer
   • Speed sensor, if equipped
   • Front brake assembly. Torque the bolts to 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm).
   • Drive flange. Torque the bolts to 36-43 ft. lbs. (49-59 Nm).
   • Shim
   • Snapring to the axle shaft
   • Hub cover
   • Front wheels of the vehicle
