- On vehicles equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS), turn the
front wheel to the straight ahead position and remove the ignition key to
prevent the steering wheel from turning.
- Drain the power steering fluid.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
- Negative battery cable
- Engine under cover
- Tie rod ends
- Steering hoses
- Left side differential mount bracket
- Intermediate shaft-to-gear box bolt
- Gear mounting clamps and gear
- Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:
- Mounting clamp bolts: 51 ft. lbs. (69Nm)
- Tie rod end ball stud nuts: 29 ft. lbs. (39Nm)
- Intermediate shaft pinch bolt: 13 ft. lbs. (18Nm)
