Drive Belt Tensioner

Removal & Installation

2.4L Engine

To Remove:

Timing belt (2.4L)

  1. Remove the engine mount bracket.
  2. Remove the drive belt (power steering oil pump and A/C compressor).
  3. Remove the drive belt (generator).
  4. Remove the water pump pulley.
  5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  6. Remove the timing belt upper and lower cover assemblies.
  7. Remove the timing belt.
  8. Remove the tensioner pulley.
  9. Remove the drive belt tensioner.

To Install:

Timing belt (2.4L)

  1. Install the drive belt tensioner.
  2. Install the tensioner pulley.
  3. Install the timing belt.
  4. Adjust the timing belt.
  5. Install the timing belt lower and upper cover assemblies.
  6. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  7. Install the water pump pulley.
  8. Install the drive belt (generator).
  9. Install the drive belt (power steering oil pump and A/C compressor).
  10. Install the engine mount bracket.
3.0L Engine

To Remove:

Crankshaft pulley (3.0L)

  1. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
  2. Use a flywheel stopper (special tool #MD998781) to hold the flywheel or drive plate, then remove the crankshaft bolt and washer.
  3. Remove the crankshaft pulley washer.
  4. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  5. Remove the generator and bracket.
  6. Remove the oil dipstick.
  7. Remove the O-rings.
  8. Remove the oil dipstick guide.

To Install:

Crankshaft pulley (3.0L)

  1. Install the oil dipstick guide.
  2. Install the O-rings.
  3. Install the oil dipstick.
  4. Install the generator bracket and generator.
  5. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  6. Install the crankshaft pulley washer.
  7. When installing the crankshaft bolt, do the following:
  8. Install the drive belt tensioner.
