CV-Boots

INSPECTION

NOTE: When vehicle is raised and safely supported during other general maintenance check the CV-boots. Also check the CV-boots after towing the vehicle. If the tow cables or hooks were incorrectly attached to the CV-boots or axle shaft, damage could have been done to the boots.

Check the CV-boot for fatigue, cracks or wear. Check the boot bands also at this time. Checking CV-boots often will help prevent expensive repairs. The CV-boots keep air and water, which mix with the grease in the joint, out of the CV-joint. The contaminated grease does not lubricate the joint well enough and can leak out. Refer to Section 7 for removal and installation service procedures.
