Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid

OPERATION

While the 2.0L and 2.6L engines use a vacuum actuated Evaporative Emission Purge (EEP) solenoid, the 2.4L, 3.0L and 3.5L engines use an electrically controlled EEP solenoid. The EEP solenoid is an ON/OFF type of solenoid valve. It regulates the introduction of purge air from the evaporative emission canister to the intake air plenum.

The EEP solenoid is powered by the battery, which is channeled through the MFI relay. When the ECM switches the ignition power transistor within the unit, current floes to the coil and purge air is allowed to enter the manifold.

This solenoid is located on the left-hand side of the engine compartment, and is integral with the EGR solenoid.
