Idle Speed Control Motor

OPERATION

NOTE: This procedure is only for 2.4L engines.

The intake air volume during idling is controlled by extending or retracting the servo plunger and by opening and closing the throttle valve. The servo plunger is extended or retracted by the DC motor inside of the ISCM being driven in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. The switching of the direction of the DC motor's direction is controlled by the motor drive IC in the ECM.

If idling is unstable or the engine stalls and it is difficult to determine the cause, turn the ignition switch ON and wait at least 15 seconds, then disconnect the servo connector. Checking in this state makes it much easier to ascertain where the cause of the trouble is located. Also adjust the engine by turning the engine speed adjusting screw during this check, if needed.
