Front and Rear Wheels

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake and then block the opposite wheel.
  2. On models with an automatic transmission, move the gear selector lever to P. On those with a manual transmission, position the gear shift lever in reverse.
  3. If equipped, remove the wheel cover. When removing the wheel cover or center cap, be careful because some center caps must be removed from the rear of the tire assembly (after the wheel has been removed from the vehicle).
  4. Break the lug nuts loose by turning them counterclockwise no more than 12 of a turn.
  5. Raise the truck until the tire is clear of the ground.
  6. Remove the lug nuts and then pull off the wheel.

    To install:

  7. Clean the wheel lugs and brake drum or hub of all foreign matter.
  8. Position the wheel on the brake drum or hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts. Always make sure that the coned ends face inward.
  9. Using a lug wrench, tighten all lug nuts in a crisscross pattern until they are snug.
  10. Lower the truck. Tighten the lug nuts, in the crisscross pattern, to 87–108 ft. lbs. (120–140 Nm).
