LEARNING PROCEDURE FOR STARTER COUNTER
2018 / ECLIPSE CROSS / EC - Workshop Manual
00 -GENERAL > 00 -GENERAL > PRECAUTIONS BEFORE SERVICE > LEARNING PROCEDURE FOR STARTER COUNTER

PURPOSE
As a learning value, the engine-ECU remembers how many times the engine-ECU starts the starter. When the number of times of starting the starter exceeds the predetermined number of times, the diagnosis code No. P1614: Experienced engine start counter will be set. After performing the following maintenance, use the M.U.T.-IIISE to surely learn how many times the engine-ECU starts the starter.
MaintenanceLearning procedure
Replacing the engine-ECUWriting data of starter counter
Replacing the starter Initialization of starter counter

Writing data of starter counter
cautionTo prevent damage to M.U.T.-IIISE, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting M.U.T.-IIISE.

1. After the ignition switch is in "LOCK" (OFF) position, connect the M.U.T.-IIISE to the diagnosis connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Select "MPI/GDI/DIESEL" from System select Screen of the M.U.T.-IIISE.
4. Select "Data List" from MPI/GDI/DIESEL Screen.
5. Confirm the Data List, item No. 164: Starter counter, and record it.
6. After the ignition switch is in "LOCK" (OFF) position, replace the engine-ECU (Refer to GROUP 13A - Engine-ECU ).
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
8. Select "Special Function" from MPI/GDI/DIESEL Screen.
9. Select "Starter counter writing" from Special Function Screen.
10. From Starter counter writing Screen, input the Starter counter recorded in the Step 5.
11. Push the OK button and store the Starter counter.
12. Confirm the Data List, item No. 164: Starter counter, and also confirm that the written value is displayed.
13. After the ignition switch is in "LOCK" (OFF) position, disconnect the M.U.T.-IIISE.

Initialization of starter counter

Initialization by M.U.T.-IIISE
cautionTo prevent damage to M.U.T.-IIISE, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting M.U.T.-IIISE.

4. Select "Special Function" from MPI/GDI/DIESEL Screen.
5. Select "Starter counter initialization" from Special Function Screen.
6. Initialise the starter counter by pressing the "OK" button.
7. After the ignition switch is in "LOCK" (OFF) position, disconnect the M.U.T.-IIISE.

Initialization by AS&G OFF switch
noteInitialization by AS&G OFF switch is a procedure when the M.U.T.-IIISE cannot be used. Basically carry out the initialization using the M.U.T.-IIISE.
1. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position (but do not start the engine).

2. Continue pushing the AS&G OFF switch greater than or equal to 20 seconds, which the AS&G OFF display screen indicates.
note Keep this state for more than 20 seconds or equal to carry out the initialization.
3. Carry out the next task within 20 seconds after releasing the AS&G OFF switch twister.
(1) Push the AS&G OFF switch, turn on the AS&G system and push it again and turn off the AS&G system.
(2) Repeat the step (1) three times.
noteEven if the ON/OFF of AS&G system is more than three times, the starter counter will be initialized.
4. Turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position.
5. Turn on the ignition switch again. Confirm that the diagnosis code No. P1614: Experienced engine start counter is not set.
