Code No. P0045: Waste Gate Actuator Control Servo Circuit High Input

OPERATION
  • Controls the current that is applied from the engine-ECU connector terminals WGM+, WGM- to the electronic-controlled waste gate actuator.

FUNCTION
  • Engine-ECU varies the direction and the amperage of the current that is applied to the waste gate actuator control servo in order to control the opening of the turbocharger waste gate regulating valve.

TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
Check Conditions
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Battery positive voltage is more than 9 V.
  • Supply voltage of the waste gate actuator control servo is more than 6 V.
Judgement Criterion
  • When overcurrent flows in the waste gate actuator control servo.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • Stop driving the waste gate actuator control servo.
  • Torque is restricted.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Failed electronic-controlled waste gate actuator.
  • Open/short circuit or harness damage in waste gate actuator control servo circuit or lose connector contact.
  • Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Perform resistance measurement at engine-ECU connector.
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Resistance between terminal WGMG and body earth.
OK: Continuity (2 Ω or less)
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the connector(s), or check and repair of open circuit, and damage in WGMG line between engine-ECU connector and body earth.

STEP 2. Check of open circuit, short circuit, and damage in WGM+ line between electronic-controlled waste gate actuator connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 3. Check of open circuit, short circuit, and damage in WGM- line between electronic-controlled waste gate actuator connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 4. Check electronic-controlled waste gate actuator.
  • Electronic-controlled waste gate actuator check (Refer to GROUP 15 - On-vehicle Service - Turbocharger Waste Gate Actuator Check ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the turbocharger assembly.

STEP 5. M.U.T-IIISE diagnosis code
  • Reconfirmation of diagnosis code.
noteRechecking the diagnosis code requires that the electronic-controlled waste gate actuator control the mechanism for greater than or equal to 2 seconds.
  1. Erase the set diagnosis code.
  2. Ignition switch: LOCK (OFF) → ON
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Confirm whether the diagnosis code is set.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Go to Step 6.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

STEP 6. Replace the turbocharger assembly
  • After replacing the turbocharger assembly, reconfirm whether the diagnosis code is set.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the engine-ECU.
Check end.
