Code No. P0088: Fuel System Pressure Too High
OPERATION
- Check code No. P0192: Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input (Refer to
). - Check code No. P0628: Fuel Pump (High Pressure) Control Circuit Low Input (Refer to
).
FUNCTION
- The engine-ECU monitors the signals input from the fuel pressure sensor.
- Based on The input signals, the engine-ECU checks whether the fuel pressure exceeds the maximum pressure of the system.
TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
Check Conditions
- More than 3 seconds have passed since the engine starting sequence was completed.
- Battery positive voltage is more than 10 V.
- The fuel pressure sensor output is lower than the estimated fuel pressure.
- While injector (high pressure) is driving.
Judgement Criterion
- For 2 seconds, the estimated fuel pressure subtracted from the fuel pressure sensor output equals more than 6 MPa.
Check Conditions
- After 2 seconds since the ignition switch is turned ON or since the completion of engine start.
- Battery positive voltage is more than 6 V.
Judgement Criterion
- The average fuel pressure is more than 26MPa.
FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
- While prohibiting the operation of the injector (high pressure), carry out the control by the injector operation only.
- Torque is restricted.
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Harness damage in fuel pump (high pressure) circuit or loose connector contact
- Failed fuel pump (high pressure)
- Failed injector (high pressure)
- Failed fuel pressure sensor
- Failed engine-ECU
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code
STEP 2. Check of short circuit, and damage in HFP+ line between fuel pump (high pressure) connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
STEP 3. Check of short circuit, and damage in HFP- line between fuel pump (high pressure) connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
STEP 4. Replace the fuel pump (high pressure)
- After replacing the fuel pump (high pressure), reconfirm whether the diagnosis code is set.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Go to Step 5.
Check end.
STEP 5. Replace the injector (high pressure)
- After replacing the injector (high pressure), reconfirm whether the diagnosis code is set.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the engine-ECU.
Check end.
