Code No. P0013: Exhaust Oil Feeder Control Valve System

OPERATION
  • Power is supplied to the exhaust oil feeder control valve from the engine control relay.
  • The engine-ECU connector terminal OCVE makes the power transistor in the unit be in ON position, and that makes currents go on the exhaust oil feeder control valve.

FUNCTION
  • The engine-ECU controls the spool valve position of the exhaust oil feeder control valve corresponding to the driving condition of the engine and continuously changes the phase of the exhaust camshaft.

TROUBLE JUDGEMENT
Check Conditions
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Battery positive voltage is more than 10 V and is less than 16.5 V.
Judgement Criterion
  • The engine-ECU terminal current value of exhaust oil feeder control valve circuit is less than 0.1 A for 2 seconds.
Check Condition
  • Ignition switch is "ON" position.
  • Battery positive voltage is more than 10 V and is less than 16.5 V.
  • ON duty cycle of the exhaust oil feeder control valve circuit is more than 20 %.
Judgement Criterion
  • The engine-ECU terminal current value of exhaust oil feeder control valve circuit is more than 2.9 A.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
  • V.V.T. phase angle (exhaust) becomes most advanced angle.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Failed exhaust oil feeder control valve
  • Open/short circuit or harness damage in exhaust oil feeder control valve circuit or loose connector contact
  • Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check exhaust oil feeder control valve itself.
  • Exhaust oil control valve check (Refer to ).
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Replace the exhaust oil feeder control valve.

STEP 2. Perform voltage measurement at exhaust oil feeder control valve connector.
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Voltage between terminal engine-ECU OCVE line and body earth.
OK: System voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the connector(s), or check and repair of short to earth, and open circuit in OCVE line between engine control relay connector and exhaust oil feeder control valve connector.

STEP 3. Perform voltage measurement at engine-ECU connector.
  • Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
  • Ignition switch: ON
  • Voltage between terminal OCVE and body earth.
OK: System voltage
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Repair the connector(s), or check and repair of short to earth, and open circuit in OCVE line between exhaust oil feeder control valve connector and engine-ECU connector.

STEP 4. Check of damage in power supply line between engine control relay connector and exhaust oil feeder control valve connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 5. Check of damage in OCVE line between exhaust oil feeder control valve connector and engine-ECU connector.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. M.U.T.-IIISE diagnosis code
  • Reconfirmation of diagnosis code.
Is the diagnosis code set?
Replace the engine-ECU.
