17 -ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL > ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM (ACC) > DIAGNOSIS CODE PROCEDURES > CODE NO. C1781: SAS FAILURE
Code No. C1781: Steering Wheel Sensor Failure

caution
  • When the column switch assembly (Integrated with steering wheel sensor) is replaced, calibrate the steering wheel sensor (Refer to GROUP 35C - On-vehicle Service ).
  • When the ACC/FCM-ECU is replaced, calibrate the radar (refer to ).

OPERATION
The ACC/FCM-ECU receives steering wheel sensor signal from the steering wheel sensor.

DIAGNOSIS CODE SET CONDITION
Check Condition
  • More than 2 seconds have passed since the ignition switch was turned to "ON" position.
Judgement Criterion
  • An internal error signal received from the steering wheel sensor.

PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Steering wheel sensor calibration failure
  • Malfunction of the column switch assembly (Integrated with steering wheel sensor)
  • Malfunction of ACC/FCM-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. Check column switch assembly for correct mounting condition.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-IIISE data list.
Check the following data list.
  • Item No.11: Steering wheel angle
OK:
  • Steering wheel neutral position (driving straight ahead): -5 to 5 degree
  • A turn of the steering wheel: Approximately equal to the amount the wheel will turn.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Replace the column switch assembly (Integrated with steering wheel sensor) (Refer to GROUP 35C - Steering Wheel Sensor ).

STEP 3. Check whether the diagnosis code is set again.
Is diagnosis code No.C1781 set?
Replace the ACC/FCM-ECU (Refer to ).
It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
